Most of the complex computational problems
in scientific research and engineering applications, including
creative-designed algorithms for high performance software
and hardware, are massive hard-solving problems, even NP problems.
How to solve these problems efficiently is very important
for the development of science and technology.
Nature Inspired Computation shows a wonderful idea for solving
these problems. It focuses on studying and understanding the
underlying principles of biological computation, and how these
principles can be adopted or modified to extend contemporary
computer science methods. Nature Inspired Computation, including
Evolutionary Computation, Neural Computation, Ecological Computation,
Quantum Computation, Complex Self-adaptive System and other
methods inspired by natural systems, has the unique character
of self-adaptive, self-organizing and self-learning. Because
of its ability in solving complex problems that are difficult
for traditional computational methods, Nature Inspired Computation
is widely used in many fields such as Optimization, Control,
Network Security and Creative Design, etc.
From the perspective of science development, Nature Inspired
Computation is an emerging interdisciplinary area between
Natural Sciences (especially Life Sciences) and Computer Science.
Its development is coherent to the rapid development of interdisciplinary
areas today.
Nature Inspired Computation is one of the
international research focuses today. There are lots of journals
and conferences for discussing theories and applications of
Nature Inspired Computation. The relative top journals include
IEEE Trans. On Evolutionary
Computation (IEEE), Evolutionary
Computation (MIT Press) and Genetic
Programming and Evolvable Machine (Kluwer), etc.
IWNICA'2004 is an excellent forum with many distinguished
international experts in the area, including Chief-Editor,
Vice-Editor, and Editors of the journals mentioned before.
The aim of this workshop is to provide an excellent opportunity
for participants to communicate with international experts
face-to-face, and further explore the mechanism of Nature
Inspired Computation and identify emerging areas of interest
together.
